About Us

  • Beta Upsilon chapter of Kappa Delta Sorority was founded 61 years ago on May 20, 1950. The chapter was established on Susquehanna University's campus by a group of women who identified themselves with the high values and standards that Kappa Delta embodies. There are currently 50 sisters in Beta Upsilon chapter of Kappa Delta Sorority.
Since the chapter's founding, Kappa Delta sisters have been an active part of Susquehanna's Greek community. Sisters have also contributed greatly to many other campus organizations and sports teams.

  • Not only does Beta Upsilon Chapter highly value academics and campus involvement, we strive each day to promote a positive and strong female role model for younger girls in the local community, women on campus and each other. The relationships and sisterly bonds created in Kappa Delta allow us to support each sister in achieving our goals. Although college always seems to end much too soon, the sisterhood does not. The bonds created within KD extend long after graduation, and KD alumae are always welcome and encouraged to meet and spend time with current, active sisters.

"Friendship was the ideal of Kappa Delta, and it grew out of the beautiful friendship of four girls. We felt it could be extended to a large multitude of girls; there was so much of itin our hearts for each other. The friendship young girls have for each other is a very lovely thing, unselfish, pure, very loyal, and brave for the sake of its name, and that is why Kappa Delta has endured, because she sprang from such a pure source."

Although philanthropy and social events are important aspects of Kappa Delta, an equal emphasis is placed on academic achievement. It is through scholarship and time management skills that we become well-rounded individuals who are prepared for the future. The sisters of KD strive for high academic achievement within our chapter. Many sisters are members of Order of Omega, the Greek Honor Society that recognizes Junior and Senior members of Greek organizations who have grade point averages at or above the All-Greek system average. Additionally, a number of girls consistently make the Dean's List.

Kappa Deltas want to see the world and make a difference. Our members take full advantage of the numerous study abroad programs and service-learning opportunities offered at Susquehanna. These programs take Kappa Deltas to sites both home and abroad, for short-term trips as well as semester-length studies. Recently, 3 Sophomore Sisters spent 2 weeks in New Orleans, Louisiana to help rebuild the city after the damage left by Hurricane Katrina. Currently, 6 of Beta Upsilon's Juniors are studying in Washington, D.C., Italy and London.

Along with dedicating time to their studies, the women of Kappa Delta dedicate their time and commitment to activities beyond that of the sorority. Many girls are actively involved in other campus organizations and have achieved leadership and prestigious awards in other organizations. Kappa Delta actively encourages its members to excel in the campus community as well as athletics.
